Set upon a block of compacted graphite iron, the engine leverages aluminum twin-cam heads for improved torque and output performance. Active grille shutters help reduce aerodynamic drag without minimizing proper levels of cooling. This Ram 1500 EcoDiesel engine is B20 biodiesel compatible, which means it accepts a blend of 20 percent biodiesel and 80 percent conventional diesel fuel.
Four capable engines are available with the 2020 Ram 1500. The gas-fueled HEMI® V8 gives you respectable overall performance, while the innovative eTorque mild hybrid system in both the V6 and V8 delivers a boost when it comes to towing and payload capacities and overall driveability.

The gas engine, gas/electric hybrid engines, and the EcoDiesel engine in the 2020 Ram 1500 engine lineup are all capable of hauling and carrying heavy loads. The ability to generate power from the engine (i.e., torque) is best achieved on the EcoDiesel engine, followed closely by the V8 with or without eTorque. All four engines deliver relatively similar fuel economy.
The innovative eTorque system found on the 3.6L Pentastar® V6 engine and 5.7L HEMI V8 engine features a gas/electric hybrid motor. The difference with these engines, when compared to the traditional gas engine, is that the alternator on the traditional gas engine has been replaced with a 48-volt battery powered, belt-driven motor generator. The eTorque system delivers the electricity, and the result is enhanced performance thanks to the added push the system gives to the engine.
